Its Fun and Friendly too!

When I was in UK, many people used to prefer going to there work riding on there bicycles. So ? Nothing wrong in that!!!

In India, Did anyone saw any employee (I mean people with high pay checks) riding his bicycle and coming to office? Infact when one my friend told about his colleague who works with one of the leading investment banks that he comes to office riding on his bicycle. The first question I asked was – what and why?

He said, he is quite environment friendly and don’t want to create more chaos on road!! And moreover, he could remain fit and fine as well.

Then my answer was – WOW!!!!

That’s really a good thought, just think of the reduction in pollution, traffic, congestion, and moreover every one could be pink and plump!!!

We in India, are more to show offs, once a person starts getting hefty paycheck, purchase a brand new car, hire a driver and then ,suited-booted, would sit on the back side reading economic times!!!!! Now imagine then with the same attire and riding bicycle, or would they hire a bicycle rider and would be on back seat relaxing? ;-)

Another thing that did impressed me recently, a family who doesn’t have TV. Life without it is more FUN I suppose!!! So anything you did like this?

Just to update yesterday we had a blood donation drive in our office. I went there happily full with excitement. She pierced one of my finger , did some tests and said - your hemaoglobin is less. You can't donate :-(

Keep Faith
Chakoli :)

Multiple reasons why people in the OK cycle to work...
1. Public transport is expensive and the cost of living is high ( as compared to US and India)

2. You can cycle to work and still be fresh... thanks to the amazing climate in summers... plus the winters are not the cold to not cycle either...

3. There are seperate cycle tracks and that makes it very safe... much safer than most of the other places that I know...

About India,
a lot of people, though not the hefty pay cheque guys, cycle to work... the Hero and the Atlas Goldline Super still have a large audience...

the distances we travel to work are too much for somone to cycle all the way, however in the UK, you can carry your cycle in the trains... not sure about the tubes though...

and I have a few people in Bangalore I know who cycle to work... its faster, cheaper, healthier, and the climate is supportive...

if my office is less than 5-6 kms away, I might cycle down to the office as well... only in winters though...

oops... too long a comment...

could not donate blood? red blood cells badao !!! gajar khao, anar khao, heam up piyo....

@Keshi

it hsud have been heameglobin count... I shud correct it :))

Chakoli said...

@Om:))

No problem about long comment ...:))

1. Here it is cheap but usually so crowded that there is no comfort... :((

2.Once cycles are intoduced, polllution will definitely decrease and so wud enhance our climate as well:))

3.
Cycle tracks exist in countries coz people use it...

In India all flyovers are constructed for one reason to avoid traffic jams...once poeple start using cycles...even govt cud look fwd to come up with tracks...

Yup distance could be one problem...and I agree in other countreies u cud carry cycles in tubes... that is not in India....

but somehow... it could be solved once people opt fr it:))

heam up yeh kya hain?

Yay! i have a friend too Sarav who does this and has been cycling to work for almost ive known him :D his car sits pretty at home and he sweats it out :)

though i quite like the idea i just cant get myself to do 30kms of cycling everyday :)

Tv hai ghar pe..but its usually not on..i rather prefer sitting with a book or my laptop :D

and abt blood donation :| mera bhi...if you look at the stats very few woman would be eligible to donate..in my company out of the 1200 who donated less than 10% were woman..so well dont feel so bad and all :)

have a good day :)

I can see people in clean sparkling white shirts/blue trousers/tie peddling in a group...
Wow ! that will be too good
Few are having friends too sitting on a front cycle bar and few are behind on the carrier and someone is playing with tring-tring...
Too good.

Arey..

I commute in bicycle...

ans inthis chaotic traffic, I get to hear all sorts of gaalis from car, bus & truckers!
Like "ghar pe bol ke aaya hai n kya?"
& "marne ko mera hi gadi mila"...
but its fun... at least i am not stuck in traffic jams.. I take alternate routes...
and these days its just a long route i take where theres no traffic... and its fun to cycle around!

bahut maza hain... its fun! cycling about 10 kms per day is cool... keeps me fit! And away from flabs and a pot belly!

Chakoli,

Good idea but not very practical in India due to traffic hazards and extreme weather. I often used to cycle to my office when I was in Lohegaon ,about 5 kms each way in 1979 to 1982. You will not believe me if I tell you that in early 1950s a richman in Pathankot hired a person to take him around town on cycle carrier as he did not know how to ride it himself. Those days people used to travel either on foot or horse or tonga. There were no rickshaws. Cycle was a novelty. He paid the " driver " Rs 10/- pm which was princly sum those days.

For your homoglobin, kindly consult doctor. Most likely you may have to take iron syrup or capsules for few days. It is not good to have it on lower side for long.

How do I post comment on such person's posts? Do I have to be a blogger on Blog.com

Take care

Well I agree to your point that people shud use cycle as much as possible in one's daily routine..

But there r certain problems..

I hve seen in many countries that they have dedicated cycle track, but here in such berserk traffic its very difficult to ride a cycle.

The traffic signals gives tracks for buses and cycles more priorities compared to other vehicles

There certain priorities given in the traffic scene in developed countries, first goes to pedestrian, then cyclist, then public transport and then passenger cars. But here its not the case.

Also our cities are quite large compared to them, an average distance to travel from home to office mite around 20 kms to and fro which is not the case in developed countries.

I think the best stuff for our country is public transport which is in quite dilapidated state in pune, I think I m going to loose my patience soon and going to by a vehicle for my self.

N is the hemoglobin count less than 10?

nah I didnt even notice that Cahkoli. I was really wondering wut I hv more or less of lol!

Hey nice to read it... in fact, one of the leading Indian IT companies has this policy you know... in their huge campus (yes, it's so huge they prefer to call it a 'campus'), no employee is allowed to use their bikes or any other vehicle except the bicycles which are provided by the company!
isn't it cool?!

oh and abt that heamo thing, best thing, eat lots of beat root!

Aarti said...

Hmm, interesting!!
My cousin was studying at BITS and said they used cycles to get around the campus, cos each building is so far off... but well, as far as cycling to work - dont think we can do that with our hot n humid weather.. we wuld be reeeeking stink by the time we reach office... :D

Ouch.. get your Heamoglobin going girl.. eat carrots, beets etc... been ages since i donated blood!!
